The Historic White Hart – A Legacy of Hospitality
We are a traditional Old English Public House dating back to the 17th Century. We welcome guests with historic charm, a warm atmosphere, and friendly staff.
Once a bustling coaching inn on the main turnpike road from London to the fashionable resort town of Bath, The White Hart has a rich history of welcoming travellers and their horses. Operating as early as 1771, it played a vital role in supporting wayfarers on their journey.
This grand building boasts an elegant ashlar Bath Stone façade and a striking mansard roof covered in locally sourced limestone tiles. Behind the main structure lies a secondary wing, complemented by a collection of outbuildings — some of which once served as stables for travellers' horses. A thoughtfully placed flight of steps near the yard entrance offered riders an easy mount.
Today, The White Hart stands as Atworth's last remaining pub — a living tribute to the village’s storied past and a cherished gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
